Ashi Sabaki can be considered as a subset of the more general term Tai Sabaki 体捌き (body movement). Actually, however, Ashi Sabaki and Tai Sabaki are usually being used interchangeably.
The fundamentals of ashi sabaki are:
-
Ukimi 浮き身 (suspension or floating): the feeling as if the legs are hanging from the body and there is no weight on the feet.
-
Zui ban (accompanying movement): the coordination of body center, spine and legs
-
Itsuki (being stuck or stiff): what must be avoided in ashi sabaki
